Daniil Medvedev has always been comically open about his relationship with clay. But recently we have seen him rise above and finally capture a clay ATP Masters 1000!
Medvedev had not won a match in three previous appearances at the internazionali BNL d'Italia, but finally managed to secure the dream run on Sunday by defeating Holger Rune in the final of Rome.
The former World No. 1 has been developing his clay court skills but has stated that the change of strings at the start of the 2023 season is one of the reasons why he has been able to find form on the clay.
“I do think that the new strings I tried this year are softer and the ball goes easier. In Australia, I was amazed by the easy depth I had on the ball, but it did not work. I decided to try more and now, it is unbelievable.“
"The ball is going faster and easier through the air, which for sure helps on clay court.“
